Kelly’s BBQ hobby turned into a successful competition BBQ team, and for 8 years a successful restaurant. Kelly and Roni Wertz owned and operated 4 Legs Up BBQ & Steakhouse in KS. I grew up in a humble countryside town in Jamaica. At an early age, I became the assistant cook at home. Fast forward to today, I now reside in Florida. Over the past decade, I have been learning and practicing the techniques of American BBQ, all while infusing my Jamaican heritage and love for my island cuisine in a combination to create the jamaicanbarbq.com. I have discovered the importance of representing both cuisines as a package. And honestly, they are better together.

We try and do most of our comps with Kids Ques cause our kids enjoy cooking as well... and sometimes cook better than we do. Being on Team B&B for the past couple of years has been an honor to represent them every weekend at a comp. When you start with the best you have a better chance of beating the best. Stay smokin' my friends.

I’m a 3rd generation competition cook. My grandpa Arnold Couch “Cuz” started the first team, “Shake Rag Hawg Cookers” and my dad Gene started his team “Mean Gene” in 1989. Both won more awards than I could count. I was 17 in my first competition when I cooked a whole goat, winning the contest. Since then I've been competing with the help of my wife Tia and our son Paxton. This is a family tradition and we love to compete with each other and against each other. That’s what it’s all about keeping Family Traditions alive and having fun.
Billy Strickland is an avid BBQ Pitmaster and an owner of Deep South Sauce Company. His love of cooking and barbecue comes from growing up with a dad who cooked in the Navy and a grandmother who had 6 boys. Needless to say he learned to cook for large gatherings, which naturally led him into BBQ. From KCBS, SCA and Burger competitions, to large event cooking, it's the camaraderie that comes from providing great food that keeps the "fire lit". B&B is his goto choice for all things fire and fuel in the pit, from logs and chunks to briquets and pellets.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Joe was always around good food with his mom making delicious meals. Joe remembers cooking as young as 7-years-old, when he learned how to cook Top Ramen. Fast-forward to 2015, Joe started his own taco catering company. Although successful in catering, Joe realized that his passion and love for BBQ was far superior, so he jumped ship and now offers BBQ catering. If catering is unavailable, you'll catch Joe at pop-ups for city events, festivals, and cook-offs. Regardless of the event, there is one thing for certain: you will always find B&B fuel by his side.

Smoking BBQ started as a weekend hobby, but quickly became a passion for Derek. Two weeks before they wed, much to Erika’s dismay, Derek entered his first contest. He didn’t fare very well, which made him determined to hone in and perfect his craft. Before long, Erika was hooked, too! Since 2017, they have won over 50 awards, including First Place Rib and Third Place Dessert at the 2022 KCBS World Open Invitational. They appeared on Food Network’s BBQ USA with Chef Micheal Symon, where they won 2nd Place Chicken and 8th Place Ribs. I first experienced bonfires and the love of barbecue when visiting family on Central Texas ranches. Something about the smell and crackling sound of mesquite, while my uncles sat around these fires all night telling stories, sparked my interest. Today, although competition BBQ is a fast-paced sport, it’s the appreciation of the old ways that shaped me into the cook I have become. I caution using the title of Pitmaster, because in my heart, I haven’t become what my uncles have been for decades, but I sure hope to get there some day. Four years as a B&B Teammate is one of my greatest honors. I believe in the product and it’s brought much success on the competition trail, but more so, bigger happiness when I see the smiles from family and friends after a long cook and sharing stories. Stay blessed peeps, and keep your fires lit.
Donald Keen is the Pitmaster of the Smoke Show BBQ competition team out of Humble, TX. While only cooking for 1 year & learning the art of BBQ, Donald has been able to compete at the highest level. Donald’s love of cooking began in his early years growing up at his families meat market & then continued to grow during his time spent cooking meals during his service with the Fire Department.
Donald has always had a passion for cooking for others, and sharing this passion opened doors to meeting others within the world of competition BBQ & igniting the spark to start his own team.
Donald and his wife, Jennifer, will be traveling across the country competing in KCBS, CBA, Outlaw and IBCA events throughout 2023. This couldn’t be possible with out some of the best partnerships in the business such as B&B Charcoal, Pitmaker, SMP, Rancho La Gloria, Dough Ball Whiskey, TX Ranch Water Co. His willingness to learn and listen to the best pitmasters in the world will allow Donald to continue to strive in 2023!
Smokey Haze BBQ is a family owned and operated BBQ team located in Palmer, AK. The team consists of Tracey Hayes, his wife Heather, and son Jackson. They are originally from Corinth, MS and moved to Palmer, Alaska in 2021. While Tracey has always had a passion cooking BBQ and steak for family and friends, he didn’t start competing until they moved to Alaska. In 2021 he entered his first SCA competition in Alaska and received his first Golden Ticket, while Jackson his son won first place in the SCA kids pork chop. From that point on they were hooked. In 2022 the team competed in the only KCBS sanctioned event in Delta Junction, Alaska. Winning reserve grand champion. Heather competed in her first SCA steak event in 2022 winning her Golden ticket and then passing her golden ticket down at the second event. Jackson also won first place in the SCA kids’ hotdog. As a young child, I remember always wanting to cook steaks on the grill for my family. I do not remember the exact day that I realized grilling was something I loved to do but I do know I’ve always enjoyed it. As time went on, I got the urge to try my hand at competing. With my family on board, I entered my first competition in August of 2019 in Brandon, Mississippi.
I am grateful that companies entrust me with their brand. I enjoy helping companies grow and succeed. The steak cookoff world is growing and I’m honored to be along for the ride. SCA competitions are great about involving the family and that is important to me. I am thankful for the support of my family, team, and sponsors.
Tim and Sandy Brown of Stress Relief BBQ got into competitive cooking to provide a little “Stress Relief” from their day-to-day jobs. They are all-in competitors on the SCA circuit, racking up a combined 47 wins, 301 top-10 walks and two SCA USA Championships from 2019 to 2022.
They attribute their success to their passion for cooking and forging friendships.
Morgan Cheek is pitmaster of the Sweet Cheeks Pit BBQ team. They started cooking in 2010 and have won multiple grand championships in the KCBS backyard They started SCA in 2020 and participated in the Worlds in 2022 & 2023.
My love of BBQ started many years ago, but about 7 years ago I found the SCA, and instantly got hooked. In 2018, I finished in the Top 20 for the national points chase and received an 8th place call at the World Championship. 2019 I was top 10 in the SCA points chase and walked 2nd place at the World Championship. In 2022 I competed in 60 SCA events earning 4 wins and 30 top ten calls. I finished this season in the national points chase at 22nd. Every year I say I am going to slow down but with the SCA growing and more competitions coming to the Midwest, it is easier to compete without having to travel long distances. I am the original for the saying "White Lightning Baby!", others have tried to replicate it but they can't get it just right.
Team Steakzilla is Chad Carter, Rosie Carter, and Natalie Carter. We primarily compete in the SCA, but we have recieved a golden ticket to the World Championship each year and we've qualified for multiple state championships. I finished in the top 75 of the USA points race the last two seasons.
Holly and Steven make up the Thacker Mountain BBQ team. Their love of open fire cooking started because Holly thought Steven needed a hobby to get his mind off his day job. They primarily compete on the Steak Cookoff Association circuit, but dabble occasionally with barbecue contests where they are team members on MBN and KCBS teams.

He's starting a new YouTube channel, @bbqgenius, and hopes to get back to the American Royal and Jack Daniel's World Championship! My go-to B&B product is the classic brown bag, Oak Lump Charcoal. Consistent and burns hot every time.
2023 is the 15th Pro BBQ Season for me and THE REAL SMOKIN ACES. I started in 2009 with team Que’n Stew’n & Brew’n until I moved back to Michigan in 2011. THE REAL SMOKIN ACES team is mostly just myself, but I love when my family and friends have time to come along. I’ve been lucky enough to win 12 Grand Championships, 24 Reserve Grand Championships, and countless 1st place wins in many KCBS events, with 4, 700+ Overall Scores and 6 Perfect 180 Category Scores. My greatest accomplishments have been 1st Place Pork at the 2020 KCBS World Invitational with a Perfect 180 Score to achive the Title of Pork World Champion, and scoring another Perfect 180 in Pork at the 2022 KCBS World Invitational! In 2021 I finished 5th overall out 462 teams at the American Royal. I can’t wait to light my Outlaw pit with the very best charcoal, B&B!!

We have a goal of adding different states that we have never competed in every year to our portfolio. We have competed in 20 states and 3 countries: Canada, Germany and Netherlands.
We have been a husband and wife cooking team since 2014, lots of ups and downs in this crazy world of competition bbq. We have met lots of friends and mostly what we call family on this bbq trail, we are blessed to spend week in and week out with these same people. This to us is what bbq is all about. We are now excitedly watching our son, daughrer; grandbaby take the bbq world by storm. This my friends is best win we as parents could ever ask for! I’m from the Sunshine State and started cooking BBQ with my brother in 2014. In 2016 we started doing mainly SCA cookoffs. Since then I have won many contests and have qualified for the World Championship every year. My best finish was10th place overall last year, and I have received an almost perfect score (254.4)and a perfect score (254.5) in events. It has been a fun ride I could not do these without great products and the support of my family. I am looking forward to 2023 and being a part of Team B&B Charcoal.

My name is Brian Fox. Our team name is Just Smokin Around. We have been competing for about 4 years. We started out doing LSBS and SCA comps and have transitioned into doing IBCA full time and were ranked #4 in the state of Texas in 2022. We try and do most of our comps with Kids Ques cause our kids enjoy cooking as well...and sometimes cook better than we do. Being on Team B&B for the past couple of years has been an honor to represent them every weekend at a comp. When you start with the best you have a better chance of beating the best. Stay smokin' my friends.
John is the pitmasters of MAC BBQ, a diverse collective of pitmaster friends that have been competing in KCBS competitions since 2014, priding themselves on attention to detail and providing people with the best possible product. Whether they are using Lang reverse flow smoker, cabinet smoker, or using their WSM, they’re constantly learning new techniques and the science behind BBQ to make sure they’re well versed in every aspect of their craft.
In 2022, MAC BBQ was invited to Cochon555's Heritage Fire tour in Napa, California, where the team competed and won against Michelin star chefs, James Beard award winners, and previous Top Chef contestants. The team will be invited back to defend the title as the Heritage Hero. @forkspooneat and @macbbq
Jen and Steve started Phoenix BBQ in 2011 after a building their own offset smoker. Since then they have competed in over 50 contests and probably judged even more. The past several years has found them traveling the Midwest with their children, hitting as many competitions as vacation time allows.

If y’all are out at a cook off come by and say hello, and yes it’s true we have food and cold one.
